Sky, air, space. Humankind has always looked upward to find the meaning of their presence on the planet. The sky has always been the place that has inspired humanity to recreate its greatest dreams. From myth to the invention of the airplane, the heavens have remained the final frontier of humankind’s desire to conquer the unknown.

Just like the boy who dreamed of conquering the skies, I became a pilot. I remember the greatest thrill of all flying experiences. The first solo flight, which, like the pioneers of flight, is the magical moment when, as humans, we finally overcome, through thought, our physical inability to soar through the skies. I remember feeling all the greatness of the history that preceded me in my hands. I screamed with excitement, soaring through the sky, far from any other human being like never before. I was flying alone and fulfilling a childhood dream, a human dream.
I flew and toured Colombia through the air, experiencing its landscapes, its cities. Humankind has always understood the world around them from the ground up. They built their cities according to their own unique dimensions. But only from above can we understand the greatness of what humankind has achieved. Only from above, when we fly over a city, can we understand our incredible ability to modify the landscape. To turn the indistinguishable from the natural world into a familiar reference. Something that places us within the hostile world of primitive nature. We reference our place through a reference point. Whether we are near or far, inside or outside, we can truly inhabit the world into which we were cast as a natural group. And this is an architectural gesture and the true meaning of inhabiting. I understood this from the sky.
After hours of flying among clouds, accompanied by wind, rain, and other aerial phenomena, I realized that the dream of flying is a magical, primordial, and childlike dream. From the air, I understood that the meaning of our presence on Earth is to inhabit. Inhabiting the world gives us meaning, puts us in our place in it. Now the search had completely changed its setting; I was now confronted with a new world, standing face to face with human habitation. Now I wanted to inhabit, and to do so, I had to be an architect.
But in reality, dreams are not the raw material of everyday life. To return to university, I had to perform a series of acrobatics that exceed my imagination. Wasted time, expired exams, sycophantic letters, waiting, lines, and tons of obstacles to overcome.
