Portraits in a sea of lies is a dramatic Colombian film of 2010, directed, written and edited by Carlos Gaviria; Is starring Paola Baldion, who with this character (Marina) won the award for best actress at the Guadalajara Film Festival, 2009; And Julian Roman. The film was awarded to the best Ibero-American film.
After the death of his grandfather (Edgardo Román) in a mudslide, Jairo (Julián Román), a traveling photographer, and Marina (Paola Baldion), his silent amnesiac cousin, decide to go and recover the land from which they were Displaced years ago. Traveling from Bogota the Caribbean Coast an old and rickety Renault 4. During the voyage Marina begins to relive his traumatic past. When they arrive at their town and announce that they come for their lands, the paramilitaries kidnap them. When trying to flee, Jairo is wounded. Marina goes to the ruins of her family’s house looking for the writings her grandfather buried and there revive the slaughter of his family. She returns with the writing of her lands to Jairo who is dying. She takes him to die to the sea.
